Cellist

Ege Atalay (1989/Turkey) was born into a musical family. Began her training with her father Adnan Atalay; a theory and analysisteacher/composer, Classical Western and Turkish traditional/folklore musicologist, specialized on physics of harmony and counterpoint. At the age of 4, Ege started piano lessons with her father and mother at home. When she was 9 years old, decided to play the cello by the influence of her violinist sister. Although her father was against to the idea of becoming a professional musician (because of the circumstances that he was aware within), she insisted to study cello and succeed into the young talent course of the State
Conservatory Of Izmir, meanwhile she continued to the elementary school. Following with the full time conservatory study with Prof. Umit Isgorur. Some of the cellists that she worked with in master classes are; Peter Bruns, Alexander Baillie, Maria Kliegel, Jiri Barta, Aram Talaylan and others. Her chamber music teacher was Prof. Çetin Aydar who was the big influence for her interest in chamber music. Formed a quartet in İzmir for 5 years which she joined with them to some international and national competitions. Shostakovich Quartet No. 8 brought them the 2nd and 3rd prizes. Alexander Rudin, Peter Fisher, Rusen Günes are some names who worked with them and insisted to keep the ensemble. However the quartet members felt the necessity to go abroad, resulted to move to different countries. After graduating, Ege moved to the Netherlands (Den Haag) and continued working with Larissa Groeneveld.Currently, she is in the final (4th) year of bachelor in Utrecht Conservatory as the student of Timora Rosler. Since she is also studying the secondary subject of Baroque cello with Viola de Hoog, playing one of the instruments made by Guust Francois. Since then, she is much into the early
music, as much as the modern cello repertoire.
